What is SEO, in plain words?
SEO (search engine optimisation) is the work of making your website appear when people search for what you sell. When someone types “best bakery near me” or “how to choose a prayer dress”, SEO decides whether they see your brand or your competitor. Unlike ads, it keeps bringing visitors after the work is done.
It has three parts, and every skill in the library belongs to one of them:
- Technical SEO — can Google find, read and load your site quickly?
- On-page SEO — does each page clearly say what it’s about, in the words people search?
- Authority — do other websites, reviews and people mention and trust you?
Paid ads stop the day you stop paying. SEO is slower to start but keeps working. The strongest brands run both, and use ad data to decide which keywords are worth ranking for.
Where does your brand need to show up in 2026?
In 2026, a brand needs to appear in three places: Google’s normal results, AI-generated answers and Google Maps. Ranking alone isn’t enough anymore. In early 2026, Search Engine Land reported that about 68% of Google searches ended without a click, because the AI answer at the top often satisfies the question.
1. Google’s normal results
The classic blue links. Still the biggest source of website visitors for most brands.
2. AI answers (AEO and GEO)
This means Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. In a 2025 study, Pew Research Center found users clicked a normal result only 8% of the time when an AI summary appeared, against 15% without one. Getting your brand quoted inside those answers is called AEO (answer engine optimisation) or GEO (generative engine optimisation).
What gets a page quoted? The Princeton GEO study (published at KDD 2024) tested nine methods. Citing sources raised visibility in AI answers by about 40%, and adding statistics by about 37%. Keyword stuffing lowered it by about 10%.
3. Google Maps
If you have a shop, clinic, salon or serve a city, the map pack (the three businesses shown with a map) often brings more customers than anything else.
My take after running client audits: most small brands in India only chase Google results. AI answers and Maps are far less crowded, and they’re where a small brand can beat a big one fastest.
How do you install the SEO skills?
A skill is a saved set of expert instructions that Claude follows automatically. You don’t need to memorise SEO rules. The skill knows them and applies them to your website when you ask in normal words. You need Claude Code or Claude Desktop to run them.
- Install the whole library:
npx skills add gaznil/seo-skills-by-gaznil - Or install one skill by adding
@and its name:npx skills add gaznil/seo-skills-by-gaznil@seo-audit - Ask Claude your question in plain words. It picks the matching skill.
Why this library? I read around 260 skills from open-source repos and kept 81, so no two do the same job and Claude never has to guess between overlapping ones. The full story is in how I filtered 260 Claude skills down to 81. This post is the practical side.
What should a brand do first? The 30-day SEO plan
Do SEO in this order: fix what stops Google reading your site, fix your key pages, get visible in AI answers, then measure. Most beginners start by writing blogs, which is backwards, because content on a site Google can’t index never ranks. Each step names the skill to use and a prompt to paste.
Week 1: Find what’s broken (days 1–7)
Day 1: Audit your site. Skill: seo-audit. You get a list of problems sorted by how much they hurt.
Run an SEO audit on https://yourwebsite.com. List every issue, sort them by impact, and explain each one in simple words for a non-technical business owner.
Day 2: Save a “before” snapshot. Skill: seo-drift. It records your titles, descriptions and headings today, so you’ll know if a later change breaks something.
Capture an SEO baseline of https://yourwebsite.com so I can compare after I make changes.
Days 3–7: Make sure Google can find every page. Skills: site-crawlability, indexing, robots-txt, xml-sitemap, core-web-vitals, mobile-friendly. “Indexed” means Google has added a page to its list. An unindexed page can never rank.
Check whether Google can crawl and index https://yourwebsite.com. Review robots.txt, the sitemap, mobile usability and page speed. Tell me exactly what to fix first.
Week 2: Choose your keywords (days 8–14)
Keyword research. Skill: keyword-research. A keyword is the exact phrase your customer types. Start with long, specific phrases like “handmade leather wallet for men Kochi”, not “wallet”. Fewer people search them, but they’re ready to buy and a new site can rank.
I sell [what you sell] to [who] in [city/country]. Find 20 keywords a new website can realistically rank for. Group them by what the searcher wants: learn, compare or buy.
Plan your pages. Skills: content-strategy and site-architecture. One page per main topic. Two pages chasing one keyword compete with each other, which is called cannibalisation.
Week 3: Fix your important pages (days 15–21)
Start with your homepage, service or product pages, and contact page.
title-tag— the blue headline people click in Googlemeta-description— the two lines under it that persuade people to clickheading-structure— clear headings that Google and AI can readschema-markup— hidden code that tells Google “this is a business, a price, a review”. It powers star ratings and prices in resultsinternal-links— links between your own pages so nothing gets losteeat-signals— proof you’re real: your name, experience, photos and reviews
Optimise this page for the keyword "[your keyword]": https://yourwebsite.com/page. Rewrite the title tag, meta description and headings, and give me the schema markup to add.
Week 4: Get quoted by AI, then measure (days 22–30)
AI visibility. Skills: ai-seo, blog-geo, featured-snippet, entity-seo. AI tools quote pages that answer the question in the first sentence, cite sources, use real numbers and show who wrote them. Look at this post: every section opens with a one-line answer.
Check how likely ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews are to cite https://yourwebsite.com. Check robots.txt for blocked AI crawlers too. Tell me what to change so my brand gets mentioned in AI answers.
Check this one today — I found it on my own site. Many hosts and Cloudflare now block AI crawlers like GPTBot (ChatGPT) and ClaudeBot by default. If they’re blocked, those tools can’t quote you, however good your content is. Open
yourwebsite.com/robots.txtand look forDisallow: /under their names.
Measure. Skills: google-search-console and analytics. Google Search Console is Google’s free tool that shows which searches bring people to you. Connect it on day 1, so you have real data by day 30.
Be realistic about timing. A new website usually needs 3 to 6 months to see steady Google traffic. These 30 days build the foundation that the results grow from.
What should you focus on for your type of business?
The 30-day plan works for everyone, but the extra effort depends on what you sell. A local salon wins on Google Maps and reviews, while an online store wins on product pages and product schema. Find your row in the table and add those skills to the plan.
| Your business | Focus on | Extra skills |
|---|---|---|
| Local shop, clinic, salon, studio | Google Business Profile, reviews, map ranking | local-seo, seo-maps |
| Online store (Shopify, WooCommerce) | Product pages, product schema, Google Shopping | seo-ecommerce, seo-images |
| Service business or freelancer | Service pages, trust, enquiries | copywriting, eeat-signals, cro |
| Personal brand or creator | Blog, AI citations, being known as the expert | blog-write, ai-seo, entity-seo |
| Selling to other countries | Language and country versions | seo-hreflang, blog-translate |
How does SEO turn into customers, not just traffic?
SEO brings visitors, but your pages turn them into leads. Traffic that never enquires or buys is just a number. Three things decide whether a visitor becomes a customer: whether you rank for buying searches, whether the next step is obvious, and whether you track which pages bring money.
1. Target buying searches, not only learning searches. “What is SEO” brings students. “SEO services for dental clinic” brings clients. Use keyword-research and fix service pages first.
2. Make the next step obvious. Every page needs one clear action: WhatsApp, call, book or buy. Run cro (conversion rate optimisation, meaning getting more visitors to act) on your top pages.
Review https://yourwebsite.com/services as a conversion expert. Why would a visitor leave without contacting me? Give me the top 5 fixes.
3. Know which page brings money. Use analytics and attribution to see which pages lead to enquiries, then create more like them.
What SEO mistakes waste the most time?
The most expensive SEO mistake is creating content before fixing the site underneath it. The other four are close behind, and all of them are easy to avoid once you know about them.
- Writing blogs before fixing the site. If Google can’t index your pages, new content helps nothing. Audit first.
- Chasing huge keywords. A new site won’t rank for “shoes”. It can rank for “vegan leather shoes for women in Kerala”.
- Two pages for the same search. They split your ranking power. Run
blog-cannibalizationto find them. - Publishing AI text with nothing real added. Google and AI tools reward first-hand experience: your photos, results and opinions.
- Blocking AI crawlers without knowing it. Check your robots.txt, as described in week 4.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the repo link from the video?
The repo is github.com/gaznil/seo-skills-by-gaznil. Install all 81 free SEO skills with npx skills add gaznil/seo-skills-by-gaznil, then ask Claude your SEO question in plain words.
Are these SEO skills free?
Yes. All 81 skills are MIT licensed, so they’re free to use, change and share. They were written by open-source authors, and I selected and organised them so none overlap. You need access to Claude to run them.
Can I do SEO for my brand without hiring anyone?
Yes, for the basics. The 30-day plan covers what most small brands need, and each skill explains its fixes. Hiring makes sense when you’re short on time, run a large store, or want strategy and link building handled for you.
How long does SEO take to show results?
A new website usually needs 3 to 6 months to see steady Google traffic. Technical fixes on an existing site can show changes within weeks once Google recrawls the pages. AI citations can come sooner when pages answer questions clearly.
What is the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?
SEO gets your page ranked in Google’s results. AEO (answer engine optimisation) and GEO (generative engine optimisation) get your brand quoted inside AI answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews. In 2026 you need both. The ai-seo skill handles AEO and GEO.
Do I need coding skills to use these SEO skills?
No. You ask Claude in plain words, like the prompts in this post. A few fixes, such as adding schema, mean pasting code into your website. On WordPress, a plugin like Rank Math turns that into a copy-paste job.
Want it done for you?
If you’d rather spend your time running your brand, I do SEO audits, on-page fixes and AI search optimisation for businesses in India and the UAE, using this same library. Get in touch through gaznil.com and share your website. I’ll tell you honestly what’s worth fixing first.
